Document is 37-page file titled “Understanding the Activity of Republic of Belarus in the field of execution and punishments detentions”. Most of text is devoted to presenting general informations about device of the penitentirary system in Belarus, organizational and legal basis of its function, structure, subordination and other features that can be found in the public domain.

PRISONERS IN STATE
May 1st, 2013 – total number of prisoners and citizens in the institutions of the RB MIS was 37 270 people:
– in penal colonies – 22 689
– in correctional colonies – 503
– in young offenders – 174
– in jail and prisons – 6241, 539 of them sentenced to prison regime
– in home jail – 1596 (including basis jail – 915, on the basis of IR – 681)
Number of sentenced to life imprisonment is 145 people, of whom 82 are in prison and 63 in penal colonies. In activity therapy centers are 4 943 citizens – 1249 of them are woman. In open prisons are 3747 convicts. In the Republican somatic hospital undergoing treatment for convicted is 52 people, and in TB hospital is 554 people.
Number of suspected and accused persons: 4 883
Limit in correctional facilities for persons serving a sentence for the first time (7 institutions) is 10 370 persons, correctional fascilities for persons who have served a sentence of imprisonment (8 institutions) – 15 200, correctional fascilities for detention of woman (2 institutions) 2 900, penal colonies (3 institutions) – 700, juvenile correctional facility (1 institution) – 510 persons, prisons (3 institutions) – 850, home detentions (9 institutions based for correctional fascilities and detention centers) – 1930, isolation prison and detention buildings (9 institutions) – 6370 people.
